FAQ
Welcome to our site’s FAQ section. To keep things clear, we have arranged the questions into categories. If you have any other questions, please e-mail me, and we’ll get back to you as soon as possible. You can e-mail us at info@archivewines.com.
Wine
- Do you sell all the wine in your archive?
No, we do not sell all the wine in our archive. Although we do sell a significant proportion of our archived wines, we retain a certain number as a reminder of what we have achieved.
- How do you ensure your wines stay in the best possible condition?
We love wine just as much as you do, and care for our wines with the utmost devotion by endeavouring to create the very best conditions in our archive. We continually test the quality of our wine and ensure that corks are replaced at regular intervals.
- How is my wine packed?
We have had an exclusive packaging designed and manufactured. This packaging ensures that the wine stays in top condition, and it also looks both fun and exclusive. After all, it’s not every day you drink a white wine from an archive in Slovenia!
- How long has the archive existed?
The archive was created in 1952, and we have stored and archived our wines here ever since.
- Can the p&f wineries archived wines only be purchased online?
Our archived wines are exclusively available through our online shop, as the archive wines should be kept in the cellar as long as possible to ensure the best quality. If you want to order in a different way or want to order a larger number of bottles, please contact u by mail: info@archivewines.com or telephone +31 (0)13 8200268.
- Do you also sell other wines that are not in the archive?
Our archive contains wines with history, but aside from these, we naturally also sell young and fresh wines through liquor stores and supermarkets. Go to www.pfwineries.com for further information.
- What grape varieties do you have?
p&f wineries cultivates many grape varieties, but not all of them are suited to archiving. Wines made from the following varieties can be found in our archive:
• Chardonnay
• Furmint
• Gewürztraminer
• Grüner Silvaner
• Muscat
• Pinot Blanc
• Pinot Grigio
• Ranina
• Riesling
• Sauvignon Blanc
• Welschriesling
• Yellow Muscat- Why do you not have any red wines?
We only have white wines in the archive. This is because of the region where our vineyards are located, an area that is potentially one of the best wine regions in the world when it comes to white wines. While red wines are generally better suited to keeping and (lengthy) maturing, we have proven that the same can be done with white wine.
- How should I store the wine?
The bottles must be kept horizontally in a cool and dark space.
- Can we come and collect the wine in Slovenia?
Absolutely! It’s actually a beautiful and impressive experience, and more information on this special way of selecting and purchasing your wines will soon be available on this site.
- Can the wine be drunk immediately?
Yes, all our wines can be drunk immediately, although a large number of them can also be kept for years.
- How long can I keep unopened wine?
It’s different for every wine. Some wines are best drunk in the near future, but others can easily gather dust in your cellar for another 15 years. The time is stated in each wine description.
- Why do p&f wineries not offer wines from every year since 1952?
Wine is a natural product, and Mother Nature is more generous in some years than she is in others, and so unfortunately some years are missing from our wine catalogue.
- How long can the wine be kept?
Once it is opened, the wine will be just right for about a day. Because the wine is exposed to oxygen and other climatological effects, the wine’s taste will change by the minute. It is only logical that the quality of the wine will slowly decrease once it is opened.
- You use stars. What do the stars mean?
With the stars we indicate the quality and the life expectancy of the wine. While all wines are ready to be drunk, there are naturally differences between them. We indicate these differences using stars, from 1 to 5.
1 = Nice wine, perfect for immediate enjoyment
2 = Nice wine, can be kept for a few years
3 = Great wine, can still mature for years
4 = Very great wine, can still mature for years
5 = Excellent wine, can still mature for years- How do you know when the wines in the archive are ready to be consumed?
We regularly check the quality of our archived wines. Therefore we understand the different stages of development, including when each wine has reached full maturity. For more details about the condition of each wine, please see the descriptions found on our website.
- Where is our archive?
The p&f wineries archive is part of our wine cellar located in Ormož, a village in the North-Eastern hills of Slovenia. A “cellar within a cellar”, access to the archive is restricted to ensure optimum security.
